Being the continuation of a non-profit paint research institute within the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences, it went bankrupt in connection with a government change, closing most environmentally related, government supported research projects. Having a reasonable business plan going forward, it was bought from the creditors with limited liabilities and the consulting and research activities was developed.
At present the aerogel technology have under multiple conditions demonstrated an order of magnitude reduction in use of components unwanted in the environment without compromising the functional qualities of marine and other protective coatings. The patents related to the aerogel technology is fully controlled through Aerogel Aps.
This technology holds a huge potential, if successful in becoming industry standard.
